The internal battery is the main power source for running the laptop and the things we only need to charge our laptops at home are a power outlet, adapter, and electricity but in a car, the story is somehow different.

Is Laptop Charging in Car Safe?

If you have such questions in your mind ‘’If charging the laptop in the car a safe process? Can I charge my laptop safely in the car etc.’’ then the answer is ‘’Yes’’ you can.

All you need to do is the proper use of a power charger, inverter, USB C-type charger, so no hurdle or heating problem will come during charging.

Charge Laptop using USB-A type Port:

This type of laptop is one of the most customary and consist of a rectangular shape. It comes with USB 2.0 or 3.0 speed relying on its hardware. USB type A charging is the most common type. Even most of the older mobile devices use this type of charging. It can’t provide faster speed and adequate wattage.

Charge Laptop using USB-C type Port:

You need to charge your laptop using USB-C cable if your laptop has a C port. It is comparatively smaller in size and oval in its shape than A port. If you want to charge than you need a laptop car charger to charge using C type port. USB-C type charging is faster in speed and it can transfer more power than A-type.

The main point is how to charge type-C port in the car so let’s see the method below:

  1. Turn on the car engine to power.
  2. Plug in the one end of type-C port to the charging port of your car.
  3. Plug in the other side of the connector in your laptop.

Precautions:

Don’t take your laptop inside the car when you are leaving because it can be stolen by someone else or damaged by overheating.

Charge your Laptop using Power Bank:

If you are sure that your laptop supports charging through a power bank so you can carry it along with laptop and other accessories during a travel. There are many laptops of C-type input which are not capable to charge from power bank so make sure about your laptop first. In some latest C-type laptops you can use power bank to charge the device. In this process you don’t need to involve your car for charging. Moreover don’t forget to check that your laptop should have C-type port.

As we use a power bank to charge our smartphones we can use them for charging the batteries of our laptops and tablets too. Power banks works with watt and mAh. Smartphones need a low quantity of mAh whereas more mAh are needed for laptops, so a high mAh power bank is required to charge the laptop. A minimum of 40,000 mAh are required to charge with power bank.

Below are the steps to charge your laptop using a power bank:

  1. You need a 40,000 mAh power bank fully charged.
  2. Now connect the USB C-type port in the laptops C-type port. You can use any company’s power bank but keep it in mind that it should be not less than 40,000 mAh power battery.

Charge Laptop using Inverter:

Generally, we charge our laptops from electricity power outlet with an AC power but a car uses DC so we can’t directly charge them with charger and an inverter is required for it. Some old model laptops have no C-type ports and they need an inverter to charge. Use inverter with original chargers for such laptops. The inverter charger helps to convert DC into AC. It is simple to use.  We only need to plug in the charger of our laptop in the inverter.

Using an inverter for charging could be inexpensive. Mostly inverters are cheap in price but they can damage the device because they don’t make sine waves purely.

Follow these steps to charge the laptop:

  1. Firstly, plug in the inverter cable with the charging slot of the car and then plug in the charger of the laptop to the inverter.
  2. Make sure that the charger of your laptop is connected with the laptop.

Charge Laptop using Charger:

This is the other simple method to charge your laptop in a car simply by connecting the charger’s one end to the laptop’s outlet and the other end with laptop.
